Theodore Wirth Regional Park: Minneapolis’s Wild Green Giant

At 759 acres, Theodore Wirth Regional Park is Minneapolis’s largest park — bigger than New York’s Central Park — and its wildest: a rolling landscape of hardwood forest, prairie, wetlands and two lakes just west of downtown.

The park packs a full outdoor life into one address. Summer brings swimming at Wirth Lake’s beach, mountain biking on beloved singletrack, golf, archery and the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden blooming in its hollow. The Trailhead building anchors winter: cross-country ski trails, a tubing hill with a lift and snowboard terrain under the lights.

Wirth proves Minneapolis’s park philosophy — nature isn’t a trip out of town; it’s woven through the city itself. Come for an hour’s walk and accidentally stay all day.
