Splash Pads and Wading Pools: Minneapolis’s Free Summer Cool-Down Map

On a hot July afternoon, the most important map in Minneapolis is the blue one: the Park Board’s 60-plus wading pools and splash pads, scattered through neighborhood parks in every corner of the city — and all of them free.

Each has its tribe. The splash pad at Powderhorn Park draws the south-side crowd; North Commons and Webber Park anchor the north with newer, bigger water play; tiny tot pools in quiet parks like Kenny and Fuller serve the under-5 set with zero-depth entries and big shade trees. Lifeguard-free but parent-packed, they run on the honor system of neighborhood summers.

The strategy is gloriously simple: find your park, bring towels and snacks, rotate with the ice-cream truck. In the City of Lakes, even the puddles are public amenities.
