Los Angeles has wonderful news for art lovers who are curious about the future. On October 22, 2026, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announced a landmark gift of historical and contemporary digital art: more than 200 works, offered over the next several years by members of LACMA’s Digital Leaders group, the Mneme Foundation and other generous donors from their personal collections.
The gift reaches far back and far forward at the same time. It ranges from pre-internet artworks of the mid-20th century to recent pieces made with artificial intelligence, representing a diverse mix of media and global art practices. Among the pioneers are Rebecca Allen, Harold Cohen, Manfred Mohr and Vera MolnƔr, while contemporary names include Refik Anadol, Dmitri Cherniak, Tyler Hobbs, Lauren Lee McCarthy, Trevor Paglen and Casey Reas.
LACMA says the gift will help place digital art inside the long story of art history, rather than apart from it ā a perfect fit for a museum that has explored art and technology for decades, and for a creative city like Los Angeles. The works will arrive over several years, giving visitors many new reasons to return to the museum at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard and discover how artists keep inventing with every new tool.
