Los Angeles gets a golden-hour treat on Saturday, November 14, 2026, when Griffith Observatory hosts its November Sunset Walk & Talk, a guided hike that blends urban ecology, park history and a first look at the evening sky. The walk runs from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is led by Observatory staff together with Senior Urban Ecologist Brian Rawles, Junior Urban Ecologist Ryan Kinzel and Griffith Park Rangers.
The route starts at the Greek Theatre, climbs the Boy Scout Trail up to the Berlin Forest, and returns to the Greek Theatre via East Observatory Road. In all, walkers cover 2.25 miles with about 375 feet of elevation gain over roughly two and a half hours at a moderate pace. The trail includes some steep inclines, so comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are a smart idea.
Along the way, the group stops to talk about the highlights and history of Griffith Park ā the largest urban-wilderness municipal park in the United States ā and to point out objects becoming visible in the evening sky as the light fades over the city below.
The meeting point is the Greek Theatre Parking Lot F/G, at 2700 North Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. Parking is first come, first served, so arriving a little early is wise. It is a cheerful, healthy way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.
