Happy City News is pointing its lens at the night sky: Griffith Observatory is hosting its monthly Public Star Party on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and everyone is invited to look up.
From 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., the Observatory teams up with local amateur astronomy groups to turn the front lawn into an open-air telescope village. Dozens of telescopes will be set up across the grounds, with friendly volunteers guiding visitors through views of the Moon, planets, and whatever else the October sky serves up.
This is one of Los Angeles’ best family traditions: curious kids and first-time stargazers mingle with passionate astronomers who love sharing what they know. Arrive before sunset to explore the Observatory’s exhibits, then stay as the sky darkens and the stars come out over the city.
The event is free and open to the public, and it’s a perfect evening outing for the whole family. Bring a jacket, bring your curiosity, and prepare to see Los Angeles from a brand-new perspective ā through a telescope.
