Los Angeles classical music fans have a lively new way to go deeper this season: LA Phil Insight, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s year-round series of pre- and post-concert talks, panel discussions, film screenings, and special events, returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall with a full calendar of experiences designed to bring audiences closer to the music.
Many Insight events are free to concert ticket holders, and select programs are free and open to the public, making them an inviting add-on to an evening downtown. This season’s highlights include the Committee Brunch on Saturday, November 7, and All-In: Celebrating Gustavo Dudamel’s Legacy with the LA Phil on Sunday, November 22, alongside film screenings at The Ford and evenings such as Staffer Nights and Keys to the City. Some events require a separate ticket or advance RSVP, so the Phil recommends checking event details before you go.
Insight grew out of the orchestra’s former Upbeat Live series and now lives under the orchestra’s Learning umbrella, alongside programs like YOLA, the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. As Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel moves through his final season before departing for the New York Philharmonic, these gatherings offer a warm, human way to celebrate his legacy with the orchestra he has led since 2009.
Most Insight events take place at Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Happy City News recommends arriving early, enjoying the hall’s sweeping architecture, and making a full evening of it in the city.
