‘Camelot’ at UNLV’s Donna Beam Gallery Honors 37 Years of Art and a Thousand Camels

Las Vegas art lovers have a joyful reason to head to the UNLV campus this fall. The Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, in Room 145 of the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building, is presenting Camelot, a special exhibition honoring gallery director Jerry Schefcik and his 37 years of service to the gallery and the local art community.

The theme comes from a beloved personal quirk: Schefcik is known for a collection of nearly a thousand camel figurines. Inspired by that treasured collection, participating artists created 26 works that respond through representation, memory, symbolism, humor and personal connection. The roster brings together talents including Suzanne Acosta, Erik Beehn, Diane Bush, Dan Hernandez, Alina Lindquist and Shahab Zargari, among many others from the Las Vegas art scene.

The exhibition is on view through Thursday, November 5, 2026, with gallery hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its Art Walk reception takes place Friday, October 23, from 5 to 9 p.m., with speakers Sean Clark and Jerry Schefcik and a 10-minute silent dance performance. One work will receive a $1,000 purchase prize and join the gallery’s permanent collection. Admission is free and open to the public, so Happy City News invites everyone to come celebrate a Las Vegas art champion.
