All aboard for a celebration 35 years in the making! Just a short drive from the Strip in Boulder City, the Nevada State Railroad Museum marked its 35th anniversary by opening its very first Visitor Center on September 19 — a $23 million, 9,000-square-foot welcome home for Nevada’s railroad story, funded through a Conserve Nevada bond.
Inside, families find nearly 3,800 square feet of exhibits on Nevada’s railroad history and technology, hands-on displays that invite kids to touch and explore, a museum store, a research archive and reading room, a projection map theater, and brand-new educational programming. Outside, a new shaded passenger platform sets the stage for the museum’s beloved weekend train rides — a little time-travel on the rails.
It is a perfect family day trip: history, learning, and the simple joy of a whistle echoing across the desert. Pair it with a stroll through Boulder City’s charming downtown for a full day away from the neon. Details and train schedules at boulderrailroadmuseum.org.
