The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is turning its Education Room into a sweet little workshop this holiday season. Its special Discovery Saturday: "Gingerbread" House Workshop runs every Saturday from November 14 through December 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting families to build and decorate a festive house of their own in the heart of the Springs Preserve campus.
Getting started is easy and affordable. Each "Gingerbread" House Kit costs $10, or you can pick up two kits for $15, while supplies last. Every kit comes with cardboard gingerbread house-style pieces, and builders are welcome to use all the decorative materials available in the Education Room ā or take the kit home and create there. It is a relaxed, drop-in activity designed for creativity, patience and plenty of holiday cheer.
The workshop is part of Discovery Saturdays, the museum’s weekly series of new activities for explorers of all ages, offering a fun, hands-on way to learn about Nevada’s natural and human history through artifacts, fossils and interactive discovery. Families can make a full day of it by exploring the museum galleries before or after their building session. The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is located at 309 S. Valley View Boulevard and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday. For questions about the workshop, the museum’s Education Department can be reached at 702-822-8746.
