First time in the City of Fountains? Here’s the weekend that makes visitors into fans. Friday: land, drop your bags, and head to the Crossroads for dinner and First Friday galleries if the calendar aligns — or the Kauffman Center for whatever glitters that night.
Saturday is museum day, Kansas City style: morning at the free Nelson-Atkins (start with the shuttlecocks, end with Caravaggio), lunch in Rozzelle Court, then the National WWI Museum and the tower view that explains the whole city. Sunset belongs to the Plaza — fountains, Spanish architecture and dinner where Kansas City celebrates.
Sunday: City Market for breakfast and the Arabia Steamboat Museum, a streetcar ride to Union Station’s Science City and Grand Hall, and barbecue — because leaving without it is technically a crime here.
Two days, five icons, one verdict: you’ll be back for a longer weekend.
