Kansas City’s oldest public gathering place is also its most delicious. City Market, in the River Market district since 1857, anchors the region’s largest farmers market year-round — and wraps it in a global food hall of permanent shops and restaurants.
On market mornings, more than 100 regional growers and makers fill the sheds; around them, the market’s permanent blocks serve the world: Middle Eastern bakeries, Italian delis, Cajun, Vietnamese, BBQ (this is Kansas City, after all) and coffee roasters, all within a few fragrant blocks. The Arabia Steamboat Museum and the KC Streetcar’s River Market stop make it a full outing.
Come hungry on a Saturday, shop like a chef, eat like a traveler.
City Market is where Kansas City has fed itself for 165 years — and it keeps getting tastier.
