CPKC Stadium: Kansas City Built the World’s First Stadium for a Women’s Pro Team

On the banks of the Missouri River, Kansas City did something no city had ever done: it built a world-class stadium specifically for a professional women’s sports team. CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current of the NWSL, opened in 2024 to sellout crowds and global headlines.

The intimate 11,500-seat stadium puts fans deliciously close to the action, with the river as its backdrop and the downtown skyline beyond. Its open design, local food scene and famously loud supporters have made match days at the Current one of the hottest tickets in American soccer.

The stadium anchors the Berkley Riverfront, where trails, parks and new development are turning the river into Kansas City’s front yard once again. Even on non-match days, the neighborhood is worth a wander for the views alone.

CPKC Stadium is more than a venue: it is a statement about what Kansas City believes — that women’s sports deserve a palace of their own, and that this city was the one to build it first.
