Most museum exhibits sit behind glass. The American Jazz Museum’s Blue Room plays four nights a week — a working jazz club inside the museum at 18th & Vine, where the ghosts of Kansas City jazz share the room with its living heirs.
Named for the famed Roosevelt Hotel club of the 1930s, the Blue Room hosts local masters, national touring acts, jam sessions and the Indigo Hour early-evening sets — surrounded by the museum’s exhibits of the era when Count Basie and Charlie Parker made this neighborhood the swinging crossroads of American music.
The cover stays friendly, the sightlines are close and the music is the real Kansas City article: blues-drenched, rhythm-first, joyful.
History you can hear, in the room where it refuses to be history. The Blue Room is Kansas City jazz, live nightly.
