Fall in Kansas City smells of fresh shavings and champion livestock. The American Royal Fall Livestock Show runs October 9–25, 2026 — one of America’s premier livestock exhibitions, where the nation’s best cattle, swine, sheep and goats compete under the banners of a tradition stretching back to 1899.
Families wander the barns meeting 4-H and FFA exhibitors and their immaculate animals, while the show rings host a rolling pageant of judging that decides national reputations. This year’s show carries extra history: the Royal is building its first permanent home — a 390,000-square-foot campus in Kansas City, Kansas, now about 80 percent complete.
Admission days are an education in where food comes from, delivered with Ferris-wheel fair energy.
The boots are real, the ribbons are earned. Kansas City’s cowtown crown still fits.
