Lyric Opera of Kansas City opens its 2026-27 season with the most perfect comedy in opera: Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” where servants outsmart masters, disguises multiply and love wins in the end — all carried on music of impossible beauty.
The production launches a season that pairs classics with community: the company’s Opera Book Club with Rainy Day Books (October 27), an “Amadeus” film night at Screenland Armour (November 1) and the popular Opera Dives Deep talks make November an all-access month for the opera-curious.
Figaro itself is the ideal first opera: funny, fast and full of tunes audiences have loved for 240 years — performed at the Kauffman Center with English supertitles throughout.
Kansas City’s opera season starts with a wedding. Everyone’s invited.
