BLOCK XXVI: In Relation Brings Twelve Artists Together at Houston’s Glassell School of Art

Houston has a bright new reason to linger in the Museum District: BLOCK XXVI: In Relation is now on view at the Glassell School of Art, the teaching wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through November 29, 2026 — and admission is free.

The exhibition brings together twelve artists — Malika Barriquault, Johana Hartjen, Lucy Haslam, Una Kirkpatrick, Kellie Lawrence, Rachelle LeBlanc, Johnny Maloney, Katia Machado, Linda Martin, John Pagani, Joshua Silver and Madeline Vicencio — whose practices invite visitors to move beyond simply looking, toward deeper engagement with each work.

As the Museum describes it, the show encourages viewers to uncover the layered histories, material narratives and lived experiences embedded within each piece, revealing connections that stretch across personal, cultural and historical contexts. It is art that rewards a slow look: the longer you stay with a work, the more relationships it reveals.

Collaboration is part of the story, too. Alongside individual works, collaborative projects highlight the exchange of ideas, materials and perspectives, showing how dialogue can expand both an artist’s practice and our collective understanding.

You’ll find the exhibition in the Levant Foundation Gallery at the Glassell School of Art. With free admission and a closing date of November 29, it’s an easy, joyful add to any fall visit to the MFAH campus — bring a friend, compare favorites, and let the conversations begin.
