Houston Through Teen Eyes: ‘Eye on Houston’ Student Photography Shines at the MFAH Through November 29

Some of the freshest photographs of Houston this season were taken by Houston teenagers. Eye on Houston: High School Documentary Photography, the beloved annual exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is on view through November 29, 2026, celebrating the city’s diverse neighborhoods through the cameras of its youngest documentarians.

The exhibition grows out of an ongoing collaboration between the MFAH and Houston Independent School District high schools. Using photography as a tool, student photographers document daily life in their respective communities and around Houston: front porches and bus stops, family businesses, bayou trails, quinceañeras, murals and the small everyday moments that rarely make the postcards but make the city home.

It is a joyful reminder that Houston’s story is best told by the people who live it, block by block. For the students, the exhibition is also a real museum debut, with their work presented on the walls of one of the largest art museums in the United States. For visitors, it is a chance to discover corners of the city they may never have seen, guided by the honest, curious eyes of a new generation.

Catch it before it closes on November 29, and remember that general admission at the MFAH is free for everyone on Thursdays, and children 12 and younger are always admitted free.
