Poetry Under the Trees: Houston Botanic Garden Hosts “AncesTREE” Author Night with Dr. Lindsay Gary

There is something magical about hearing poetry where trees are listening too — and this November, Houston Botanic Garden invites you to exactly that kind of evening. On Friday, November 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Garden hosts AncesTREE: Meet the Author, a special night with Dr. Lindsay Gary and her brand-new poetry collection, AncesTREE.

Dr. Gary’s poems celebrate trees, the natural world, and the deep ancestral roots that connect people to the land — tracing her own heritage through the branches of Africa and its global Diaspora. The collection comes alive with gorgeous watercolor illustrations by Houston artist Ashley Lilly, making this as much a visual treat as a literary one.

The evening unfolds like a garden party for the soul: a social mix-and-mingle, a moderated conversation with the author, a live poetry reading, and an audience Q&A — followed by a book signing, with a limited number of copies available for purchase. The Garden offers free parking for author talks, and guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks to enjoy picnic-style under the evening sky.

Tickets are $25 for non-members and $10 for Garden members. Come ready to slow down, breathe in the green, and see trees as the living witnesses to history that Dr. Gary’s poems reveal them to be.
