Fall has officially taken over the Houston Zoo! The zoo’s beloved month-long celebration, Zoo Boo, presented by King & Spalding, is filling the park with autumn magic from September 25 through October 31.
Little ghouls and goblins can wander a 15-foot-tall fall foliage arch at Autumn Avenue, explore Ghost Town near the John P. McGovern Children’s Zoo, and stroll through a pumpkin tunnel built from hundreds of glowing pumpkin lanterns. New this year are the Great Pumpkin Portrait photo spot, the Tangled Web Trail, and the Pumpkin Pitch. Returning favorites include the Chatter Patch near the Flamingo Terrace and Gourdon and Octavius, the talking pumpkins by the Reptile House and in African Forest.
And the animals are getting into the spirit too! All month long they receive fall-themed enrichment, from pumpkins to cinnamon-scented paw-zzles and seasonal treats — delightful extras that keep them physically and mentally stimulated while guests watch them play.
On select evenings the celebration goes late: Zoo Boo Extended Hours keep the park open until 9:30 p.m. on October 9, 16-18, and 23-30, with spooky themed nights for all ages.
All Zoo Boo activities are included with general admission and are free for zoo members. A sweet bonus: by recycling old handheld devices during Zoo Boo, visitors help protect gorillas in the wild.
