An ancient army is about to march into Houston. The Houston Museum of Natural Science has announced that its brand-new exhibition, Terracotta Warriors, will open to the public on November 15, bringing more than 110 newly unearthed treasures to North America for the very first time. Museum members get an early look on November 14.
This is not simply a rerun of the museum’s two previous blockbuster shows. The new chapter digs deeper, unveiling the latest archaeological discoveries that rewrote the story of ancient China. Visitors will journey through more than two thousand years of history, from one of the country’s earliest cities to the iconic Qin dynasty, meeting life-size warriors, archers, kneeling figures, and a high-ranking officer face to face.
The exhibition also dazzles with precious jades, gleaming gold ornaments, bronze vessels, and ceremonial fittings recovered from the tombs of kings and noblemen. Rare artifacts from the 4,000-year-old city of Shimao reveal the dawn of urban life in northern China. Organized with leading institutions across Shaanxi Province and Bowers Museum, this is Houston’s chance to stand before one of archaeology’s greatest wonders. Tickets and details are available at www.hmns.org or by calling (713) 639-4629.
