Denver families have a brand-new reason to head to City Park this fall. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science will open “The Animal Kingdom: A Tale of Six Kingdoms” on Friday, November 20, 2026, a temporary exhibition built around one joyful question: how are all living things connected?
The show tells that story through the six kingdoms of life — animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, archaea and protists — using striking specimens, immersive media, vivid graphics and hands-on interactives. Visitors will meet charismatic mammals, birds and sea creatures, come face to face with predators and parasites, and discover how even the tiniest organisms help hold the natural world together.
Young explorers can compare fur, scales, feathers and skin, spot the differences between carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, and wrestle with a delightfully tricky question: what makes something alive — a virus, a plant, a fungus, or even fire? A special segment on pinnipeds dives into the lives of seals, sea lions and walruses and how they thrive from the tropics to the polar seas.
When the exhibition closes in Denver, it will begin a North American tour — so local families get the very first look. “The Animal Kingdom” runs at the museum, 2001 Colorado Blvd., and is included as the latest chapter in the museum’s long tradition of bringing the wonders of science and nature to curious minds of all ages.
