Fall in the Mile High City just got greener — and a whole lot easier. Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) has kicked off its annual LeafDrop program, giving residents a free, simple way to keep their autumn leaves and Halloween pumpkins out of the landfill and turn them into rich, earth-friendly compost instead.
The program runs Monday, October 5 through Wednesday, November 25, with weekday drop-off sites open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Leaves must be bagged in paper bags only — no plastic — and compost customers can toss leaves right into their green carts with no bagging at all. Residents can even download a coupon for a free five-pack of compostable paper leaf bags at participating Ace Hardware stores, while supplies last.
And mark your calendar: the popular weekend drop sites return in November. On Saturdays, November 7, 14 and 21, and Sundays, November 8, 15 and 22, Denverites can bring leaves and pumpkins from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Every bag collected is transformed into nutrient-packed compost instead of piling up in the landfill — a small fall chore that gives back to the soil and the city. Happy raking, Denver!
