Denver Art Museum Launches Biennial Earth Vision Photography Awards

The Denver Art Museum is giving environmental photography a major new stage. The museum has launched the James Balog Earth Vision Awards, a biennial prize honoring photographers from around the world who document our planet’s changing landscapes and humanity’s relationship with nature.

The awards carry serious support for the artists: a $40,000 First Prize and a $25,000 Finalist Prize, funded through an endowment by renowned environmental photographer James Balog and a circle of dedicated donors. The goal is to give lens-based artists the financial backing to follow their instincts and commit to the long, patient work of powerful environmental storytelling.

Selected works by the award winners will also enter the Denver Art Museum’s celebrated Photography collection, keeping these vital visual narratives part of our shared cultural memory for generations to come. “Photography has a singular power to bear witness to ecological change,” said curator of Photography Eric Paddock, celebrating the museum’s commitment to artists who challenge us to look more deeply at our world.

Denver keeps leading the way in art with purpose — and the planet is the winner.
