Bishop Arts District: Dallas’ Happiest Stroll in Oak Cliff

About two miles southwest of Downtown Dallas, in the heart of north Oak Cliff, the Bishop Arts District is the kind of neighborhood that rewards a slow stroll. Centered near the intersection of North Bishop Avenue and Davis Street, its compact, walkable blocks are lined with independent boutiques, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants — almost all of them locally owned.

The district’s heartbeat is its community. The Bishop Arts Merchant’s Association (BADMA), the neighborhood’s own organization, works to support and promote local businesses while enhancing the district’s unique character, with a vision of a vibrant, welcoming community where businesses and residents grow together. Its calendar brings neighbors and visitors together again and again, with events that include the popular Wine Walks — held on multiple dates through the year — and Bastille Day celebrations.

That mix is what makes Bishop Arts feel different from a shopping center: galleries sit beside bakeries, murals brighten the corners, and shopkeepers know their regulars by name. Come for an afternoon of browsing and a coffee on the sidewalk, stay for dinner, and you will understand why Dallas keeps calling this little corner of Oak Cliff one of its happiest places to wander.
