Walking into the Ohio Theatre is time travel to 1928: a Spanish-Baroque movie palace of red velvet, gold leaf and a three-ton chandelier, saved from demolition by the citizens of Columbus and reborn as the state’s grandest performing arts hall.
Designed by Thomas W. Lamb and listed as a National Historic Landmark, the 2,791-seat theatre now hosts the Columbus Symphony, BalletMet, Broadway in Columbus and the beloved CAPA Summer Movie Series — classic films under the mighty Morton organ, exactly as audiences enjoyed them a century ago.
Every seat faces the great stage where “The Nutcracker” dances each December; every visit begins with that first jaw-dropping look up.
They call it the “Official Theatre of the State of Ohio.” One glance at the ceiling and you’ll second the motion.
