The mighty Morton organ rises from the floor, the chandelier glows, and 1928 comes back to life: CAPA’s Summer Movie Series at the Ohio Theatre is America’s longest-running classic film series, screening golden-age favorites exactly where Columbus first saw them.
Each summer the series unspools Hitchcock, Hepburn, silent classics with live organ accompaniment and cartoon matinees for kids — all in the Spanish-Baroque palace that was built as a movie house and saved by the city that loved it. Organist Clark Wilson’s pre-show concerts on the Morton are a show unto themselves.
Tickets stay at throwback prices; the experience is priceless and air-conditioned.
Streaming is convenient. This is cinema. Columbus keeps the difference alive every summer.
