Lincoln Park Zoo Invites Middle Schoolers to Become Conservation Champions in Free R.O.A.R. Corps

Chicago families have a wonderful new reason to get excited about science, animals, and the future of our planet. Lincoln Park Zoo is now accepting applications for R.O.A.R. Corps — Raising Our Awareness and Responsibility — a free, brand-new program created just for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who want to become true conservation champions in their own city.

Offered completely free of charge, R.O.A.R. Corps follows a semester-long format similar to the zoo’s popular Conservation Camp. Participants dive into hands-on learning about animal care, wildlife science, and the real conservation challenges facing species around the world — and, just as importantly, the hopeful solutions young people can help create.

Throughout the program, middle schoolers explore conservation topics relevant to the Chicago community and to Lincoln Park Zoo’s own animals and science work. They practice leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while developing fun, interactive activities designed to inspire zoo guests to learn more — and to take action.

The experience culminates in a special R.O.A.R. Corps Day right at the zoo, when participants share everything they have created and learned directly with visitors. It is a joyful, confidence-building moment for these young advocates, and a delightful surprise for families strolling the grounds that day.

Applications are due by November 16, so Chicago parents are encouraged to apply soon. For Happy City News readers looking for a meaningful, screen-free opportunity that nurtures curiosity and compassion, R.O.A.R. Corps is exactly the kind of good news worth roaring about. Details and applications are available at lpzoo.org.
