At the tip of Northerly Island, the Adler Planetarium has been showing Chicago the universe since 1930 – and its family welcome is stellar. In Planet Explorers, kids under nine can pilot a play spaceship, climb through space-station modules and launch rockets, while the big dome theaters sweep everyone from the moon to the edge of the galaxy.
Between shows, families can hold moon rocks’ stories in their hands (well, almost), meet astronomers at daily programs and step outside for one of the best skyline views in the city. For any child who has ever looked up and asked ‘what’s that?’, the Adler is where the answers begin.
