Charlotte middle schoolers get a deliciously bright way to celebrate National Pickle Day this fall. On Saturday, November 14, Discovery Place Science hosts Dilluminated!, a hands-on workshop where students explore the science of electricity and conductivity — and build a structure that makes an ordinary pickle glow right before their eyes.
The two-hour session turns a humble deli pickle into a science star. Working in the museum’s labs, participants will test how electric current moves through different materials, spark their curiosity about circuits, and discover why one of the most electrifying foods around can light up. It is messy, surprising, giggle-filled learning at its best, led by the museum’s educators in Uptown Charlotte.
Dilluminated! is designed exclusively for students in grades 6–8 and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on November 14. Space is limited to just 20 participants, so early registration through Discovery Place’s official ticketing page is a smart move. Discovery Place Science, a beloved nonprofit museum at 168 W. 6th Street, has been igniting curiosity in Charlotte families since 1981 — and this briny workshop is a perfect excuse to stay afterward and explore the rainforest, the aquariums and the hands-on exhibits together.
