80th Annual Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade Lights Up Uptown Charlotte on Nov 25

Charlotte’s holiday season officially begins with a beloved tradition: the 80th Annual Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade, stepping off on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. along Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte — and it is completely free to attend.

The largest Thanksgiving parade in the Southeast — and the fourth largest of its kind in the entire country — lights up the night with larger-than-life floats, giant balloons, marching bands, dance teams and performers from across the region. The parade airs live on WCCB Charlotte’s CW at 6:00 p.m., reaching more than a million homes.

Parade highlights

  • 80 years of magic — the tradition began in 1947 as the Carolinas Carrousel Parade.
  • Massive scale — recent editions drew 100,000+ spectators along Tryon Street.
  • Battle of the Bands — regional high school marching bands compete live for a trophy and next year’s spotlight.
  • Segwalloons — oversized balloon characters gliding down Tryon Street on concealed Segways, a parade signature.
  • Musical acts — local, regional and national artists performing along the route.

With Novant Health as title sponsor since 2013 and Charlotte Center City Partners producing, the parade keeps growing in spectacle every year. Happy City News recommends arriving early to claim a good spot on Tryon — and staying for dinner in Uptown after the last float passes.

Volunteers in costume, giant balloons overhead and thousands of neighbors lining the sidewalks — eight decades in, this parade remains what it has always been: the moment Charlotte officially welcomes the holidays, together. Do not miss it.
