The world’s oldest annual marathon just keeps getting bigger. The Boston Athletic Association announced that 33,656 qualifier entry applications were received during registration week for the 131st Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America, set for Patriots’ Day, April 19, 2027.
Athletes from 129 countries and all 50 U.S. states applied between September 14 and 18, all dreaming of the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston. Because of field size limits, not every qualifier will make the starting line — the B.A.A. is now verifying submissions and will notify runners of acceptance by early October.
“All around the world, athletes have circled Patriots’ Day on their running calendars,” said B.A.A. President and CEO Jack Fleming. One of the proudest traditions in sports is calling — and Boston is ready to cheer them all the way down Boylston Street!
