There is no better way to experience Boston in the fall than on foot, with harbor air in your lungs and world-class art around every corner. The Institute of Contemporary Art is making that stroll even more magical this season with Waterfront Art Walks, a new program that connects the ICA with Commonwealth Pier along a scenic harborfront route filled with extraordinary contemporary public art.
Wander at your own pace and take in the sculptures along the water, or join one of the free guided walks led by educators from the ICA and Commonwealth Pier. This month the guided walks run on Friday, October 16 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, and Sunday, October 25 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, all departing from Harbor Plaza on Commonwealth Pier.
Among the highlights is the work of artist Derrick Adams, whose joyful sculptures brighten the waterfront with bold color and playful forms. The walks are completely free and open to everyone, with no advance registration required, making this the easiest art outing in the city: just show up and walk.
Between the glittering harbor, the crisp autumn breeze, and art that turns the pier into an open-air gallery, this is Boston at its happiest. Grab a friend, wear comfortable shoes, and see the waterfront with fresh eyes.
