‘Time Hop’ Sends St. Louis Travelers Through Centuries at CAM

Seven artists from across the country and around the globe are bending time at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Time Hop, the museum’s thematic group exhibition, gathers new, commissioned and recent works — plus live performance and related programming — from artists based in New Mexico, Peru, New York, Mexico, Hong Kong, London and Berlin.

The show begins with a hopeful question: what can we learn from the past in order to inform our future? Each artwork becomes a small time machine, tapping into the precolonial past through familial lineage and a deep listening to the land — folklore, storytelling, ancestral learning and spirituality all woven into the galleries.

Participating artists Monira Al Qadiri, Dominique Fung, Blas Isasi, Tau Lewis, Noé Martínez, Eric-Paul Riege and Wong Kit Yi incorporate ancient traditions of making while projecting boldly into the future, turning tradition into a path toward liberation and healing.

Organized for CAM by Associate Curator Misa Jeffereis, Time Hop is an invitation to slow down, travel centuries in a single afternoon, and leave St. Louis imagining a brighter tomorrow.
