Happy City News loves a time-travel story, and Dallas is about to get a spectacular one: Journey Through Pompeii: Masterpieces from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples makes its United States debut at the Dallas Museum of Art on December 13, 2026, running through May 2, 2027.
More than 160 preserved objects travel from Naples to Texas: stucco reliefs, marble sculptures, frescoes, mosaics and domestic wares from Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae, the Bay of Naples towns preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. Together they paint daily life in vivid detail, from a silver kantharos, or goblet, from Pompeii’s House of Menander to a painting of entwined snakes from a domestic shrine, evoking everyday prayers.
“The works in the exhibition have been a source of fascination and inspiration for centuries,” said Anabelle Gambert-Jouan, assistant curator at the Dallas Museum of Art. “We’re delighted to bring highlights from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples’ outstanding collection to Texas audiences, who may not otherwise have the chance to see these treasures so close to home.”
Director Brian Ferris adds that the show reveals how familiar ancient lives feel: people then, as now, hungered for beauty, connection and meaning. After Dallas, the exhibition travels to Richmond and Nashville, so North Texas gets the first look. Mark December 13 and get ready to walk streets that time itself preserved.
