Grace Stott Turns Everyday Clutter Into Joy at the Mint Museum

Ceramic junk food, mischievous cherubs, curious insects and the beautiful mess of daily life fill Mint Museum Uptown this season in Grace Stott: The Artifacts of Being Human, the Charlotte artist’s Constellation CLT installation, on view through March 7, 2027.

Stott works across ceramics, painting and collage, turning the objects we leave behind into small celebrations of being human. Her art draws on her family’s heritage, on motherhood — her own children appear as cherub-cheeked angels and metamorphosed butterflies — and on the Pop Art tradition of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Rosalyn Drexler, who found feeling in everyday things. “It can be kind of beautiful, too, the artifacts of being a human,” Stott says of the clutter that inspires her.

Uniquely, this is not one gallery but five: the installation pops up in the museum’s atrium, on Levels M, 3 and 4, and in the museum store, rewarding visitors who explore. Constellation CLT, the Mint’s series spotlighting artists from the local community, has found a perfect match in Stott, a founding member of Charlotte’s Goodyear Arts collective.

Save the date, too: Stott gives an artist talk at the museum on November 6. Admission details and hours are at mintmuseum.org.
