Free Wednesday Nights at the Mint Museum: Charlotte’s Happiest Standing Date

Charlotte has a standing date every Wednesday, and it costs nothing. The Mint Museum opens both of its locations — Mint Museum Uptown and Mint Museum Randolph — free to everyone every Wednesday night from 5 to 9 p.m.

It is the perfect midweek plan. Stroll the Uptown galleries of American, European and contemporary art, step out to the plaza overlooking the city, or head to Randolph, the 1936 landmark that was the original home of the United States Mint and is now wrapped in quiet gardens. Exhibitions on view now include Annabel Livermore: The All-Consuming Desire for Peace and Quiet, opening November 7.

The free evenings are made for lingering: bring a friend after work, make it a family outing before bedtime, or turn it into the most cultured date night in town — no ticket, no reservation stress, just art. Hours may shift on city holidays, so a quick check of the museum’s visit page before you go is a good idea.

Wednesdays, 5 to 9 p.m., at 500 South Tryon Street in Uptown and 2730 Randolph Road. Charlotte’s galleries are open, the lights are warm, and the price is exactly right: free.
