Step into a room where a stained-glass window glows with butterflies. Raúl de Nieves: and imagine you are here, on view at the Baltimore Museum of Art through January 3, 2027, is a multimedia installation of sculpture, light and intricate beadwork inspired by transformation in the natural world.
The centerpiece — a 27-pane faux stained-glass window populated by monarch butterflies, Brood X cicadas and other metamorphic creatures — turns the gallery into a chapel of change, drawing on de Nieves’ Mexican heritage, Catholic imagery and queer celebration. It is immersive, joyful and quietly profound: art about becoming.
The exhibition is at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive, where general admission is free. Pair it with Flashback for a full afternoon of Baltimore’s fall season, and check artbma.org for artist programs and late Thursday hours.
