Maryland Science Center: Three Floors of Wonder on the Inner Harbor

The glass pyramid on the harbor’s south shore is where Baltimore goes to touch science. The Maryland Science Center, a founding anchor of the Inner Harbor since 1976, stacks three floors of hands-on exhibits — dinosaur mysteries with real fossil digs, a journey through the human body, the physics of flight and the beloved Kids Room built for the under-8 crowd.

The Davis Planetarium sends audiences across the universe under its dome, the IMAX theater stretches films across a five-story screen, and the rooftop observatory opens for Friday stargazing and solar viewing. Rotating traveling exhibitions keep the calendar fresh for members, and the harbor views from the top-floor windows are a science lesson in themselves: this is what a waterfront can be.

The Maryland Science Center is at 601 Light Street on the Inner Harbor. Hours and tickets at mdsci.org — the planetarium shows fill first on weekends.
