Final Weeks: ‘Matisse and Martinique’ at the BMA Through October 25

Matisse lovers, the clock is ticking. Matisse and Martinique: Portraits and Poetry, a focus exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art, closes October 25, 2026 — a last chance to see 28 lithographic portraits Matisse created for Poésies Antillaises, the book of poetry by Martinican writer John-Antoine Nau.

The presentation widens into a transatlantic conversation, adding works by Martinique artist Germaine Casse and Guadeloupean artist Serge Hélénon that answer Matisse across the ocean and the decades. For the BMA — home of the world’s great Matisse holdings thanks to the Cone sisters — it is a small exhibition with deep roots.

See it before October 25 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive. General admission is free; the Cone Wing’s permanent Matisse galleries stay open year-round for your next visit.
