Pease Park With Kids: Kingsbury Commons, Splash Pads and Storybook Oaks

Austin’s oldest public park is also one of its freshest. Pease Park, 84 green acres along Shoal Creek just west of downtown, was reborn with the Kingsbury Commons renovation, and families now claim it as their front yard.

The southern end is a children’s charter: a splash pad for hot afternoons, nature-inspired playgrounds, a treehouse-style observation pod in the canopy and winding paths under live oaks that have shaded picnics since 1875. The famous Treaty Oak’s cousins keep watch while kids hunt for the park’s troll, Malin, a beloved wooden giant hiding among the trees.

Beyond Kingsbury Commons the park stretches out for lawn games, volleyball, the city’s oldest disc golf course and the joyful spring chaos of Eeyore’s Birthday Party, Austin’s most Austin festival since 1963.

Pack a picnic, bring a swimsuit for the splash pad and let the oaks do the rest. Happy City News meets half of Austin here on Saturdays.
