Austin City Limits Music Festival: Two Weekends of Joy in Zilker Park

When the flags go up over Zilker Park in October, Austin reports for its happiest duty. The Austin City Limits Music Festival, born in 2002 and named for the legendary TV show, spreads eight stages across the Great Lawn for two weekends of music under the skyline.

The lineup is a family reunion of genres: rock legends beside pop stars, hip-hop beside country, and Austin’s own heroes woven through every day. Between sets, the park performs its own show: local food vendors in Chow Town, art installations, the beloved Austin Kiddie Limits for small rockers and a sea of flags marking each crew’s home base on the grass.

The festival pours love back into the city too, helping fund improvements to Austin parks year after year, tens of millions of dollars of trails, trees and playgrounds across the metro.

Happy City News has danced at every edition’s golden hour. When the headliner hits and 75,000 neighbors sing the same chorus, Zilker becomes the happiest hill in Texas.
