Families in Washington have a bright, creative plan for Sunday, November 15, when the Smithsonian American Art Museum hosts American Art Family Day in the Kogod Courtyard from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free celebration, with registration encouraged, invites children and grown-ups to explore the museum’s newly reopened collection galleries together through art, play and discovery.
The heart of the day is making art as a family. Visitors can drop in for a still life sketching studio, try an elements of art activity inside the galleries, and settle in for hands-on fun in the sunlit courtyard. Children ages 12 and under will find a selection of crafts and coloring pages designed just for them, with plenty of room to create, imagine and share what they make.
Between activities, families can enjoy food and beverage specials available for purchase from the Courtyard CafĆ© and take their time wandering the galleries at 8th and G Streets, NW. It is an easy downtown outing: joyful, welcoming and made for curious young artists and the adults who cheer them on. Mark the calendar, bring your sketching spirit, and let Washington’s art spark a happy family afternoon.
