By day, it’s a minimalist jewel box on the Hillsborough River. By night, it glows like a lantern over the Riverwalk: the Tampa Museum of Art, downtown’s cultural anchor since its landmark building opened in 2010.
Inside, the museum balances one of the Southeast’s finest collections of Greek and Roman antiquities with an ambitious contemporary program — painting, photography and new media exhibitions that rotate through its light-washed galleries. Its terraces host “Art on the House” evenings, riverfront yoga and some of the city’s most elegant event nights.
The museum is growing, too, with expansions strengthening its role as the Riverwalk’s art living room between Curtis Hixon Park and the Straz Center.
Come for a blockbuster, stay for the sunset on the terrace. This is Tampa’s art heart, lit from within.
