Seattle Children’s Theatre kicked off its 52nd season with the least scary monster you will ever meet. “Leonardo! A Wonderful Show about a Terrible Monster” runs October 1 through November 1 at the Charlotte Martin Theatre, and it is pure delight for the whole family.
Created by the acclaimed Chicago company Manual Cinema and inspired by the beloved books of Mo Willems, the show brings Leonardo to life through hundreds of illustrated paper puppets, furry monsters, live music and cinematic magic — all built before the audience’s eyes. Leonardo is a monster who is terrible at being terrible: try as he might, he just cannot scare anyone. His big plan to frighten Sam, the most scaredy-cat kid in the whole world, takes an unexpected turn when the two discover friendship instead.
Perfect for ages 3 and up, this gentle Halloween-season romp reminds little ones that making friends does not have to be scary. SCT also offers a sensory-friendly performance on October 17 and an access performance with ASL interpretation and audio description on October 24, so every child can enjoy the magic.
