San Francisco is hosting a once-in-a-generation encounter with ancient royalty: Treasures of the Pharaohs, now on view at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park through January 31, 2027.
The exhibition brings together 130 royal treasures on loan from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, spanning 3,000 years of Egyptian civilization. Among the highlights are objects making their U.S. debut from the celebrated “Lost Golden City” discovered near Luxor — treasures no American audience has seen before.
Curated by Tarek el-Awady and Renée Dreyfus, with a catalogue by renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, the show traces the power, artistry and mystery of the pharaohs through golden masterpieces, monumental sculpture and intimate objects of daily life.
An Access Day on November 2 will offer a more sensory-friendly visit. As the San Francisco Chronicle put it, the experience is “epic and timeless” — a dazzling reason to wander Golden Gate Park this fall and winter.
