Get ready for a journey more than 2,500 years back in time: the San Antonio Museum of Art will unveil “The Etruscans: From the Heart of Ancient Italy” on October 31, 2026, running through March 14, 2027 in the Cowden Gallery.
The exhibition introduces the remarkable culture that flourished between the Arno and Tiber rivers from the 9th to the 2nd century BC. Around 130 exquisite objects — celebrated for their unparalleled beauty and craftsmanship — will travel from museums in Italy, the rest of Europe, the United States, and Canada to tell the Etruscans’ story right here in San Antonio.
Visitors will discover the Etruscans’ masterful artistry and their vibrant exchanges with cultures across the Mediterranean, along with fascinating glimpses of daily life: their language and religious rituals, burial customs and luxurious grave goods, festive banqueting, and the lives of Etruscan women. The show closes by exploring the Etruscans’ lasting influence on ancient Roman society.
Organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in collaboration with the San Antonio Museum of Art, the exhibition also arrives with a bonus for families: SAMA will host a Free Family Day on Archaeology Adventures on October 17, a perfect warm-up before the grand opening.
