Wonderful news for art lovers in San Antonio! The McNay Art Museum, the first modern art museum in Texas, has received a $500,000 grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation to make its beautiful 25-acre campus more welcoming and accessible for everyone.
The grant will fund an organization-wide accessibility assessment in its first phase, bringing in recognized consultants who specialize in museums and cultural institutions. Their recommendations, based on national best practices, will guide a prioritized plan of improvements in a second phase — moving from study to meaningful, lasting change.
The investment covers the entire campus: galleries, grounds, programs, and digital offerings. It expands the museum’s ability to serve a growing San Antonio, with a special focus on visitors whose needs are often overlooked. As the McNay puts it, belonging is more than an open door — it is about moving through the campus comfortably, connecting with the art, and feeling the whole community was kept in mind.
Work is already underway, deepening the museum’s mission of engaging a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of visual arts — and advancing founder Marion Koogler McNay’s legacy of a place where art, access, and lifelong learning meet.
