Straddling the Portland–Lake Oswego line, Tryon Creek State Natural Area is the metro area’s only state park — 658 acres of second-growth forest where a cold, clear creek shelters steelhead and the trails shelter families from city noise.
The Glenn Jackson Nature Center anchors easy loops: the Maple Ridge and Old Main trails suit little legs, while the full network rewards bigger kids with bridges, boardwalks and a famous bat-friendly old-growth grove nearby in the park’s quiet corners. Spring trilliums carpet the forest floor; fall brings mushrooms and gold.
Free guided walks, nature camps and the beloved Trillium Festival each spring make Tryon a family institution. Fifteen minutes from downtown, a whole forest of calm.
