End of the Oregon Trail: Where the Pioneer Road Meets Its Happy Ending

For 2,000 miles they walked beside their wagons — and the journey ended here. Oregon City, just south of Portland, was the official terminus of the Oregon Trail, and its Interpretive Center celebrates the arrival with three enormous wagon-shaped halls visible from the highway.

Inside, families pack a virtual wagon (every pound matters!), try pioneer crafts, hear diary voices of the emigrants and learn about the Clackamas people who called this valley home long before the wagons. The heritage garden grows varieties the pioneers carried in their seed boxes.

Stand in the shadow of those giant wagons and the epic feels human-scale: hope, hardship and a new beginning, commemorated with pride in the town where Oregon began.
