Downtown Pittsburgh has a brand-new living room, and everyone is invited. Arts Landing, the four-acre outdoor civic space created by the nonprofit Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, opened on April 17, 2026, on the 8th Street block of the Cultural District, between Penn Avenue and Fort Duquesne Boulevard. Where vacant lots and a tired parking garage once sat, there is now a green, welcoming park designed by Field Operations and built as part of the city’s $600 million Downtown revitalization effort.
The heart of the park is its one-acre Great Lawn, angled toward the Allegheny River and two of the golden Three Sisters bridges, with a graceful bandshell stage for concerts and festivals. A leafy Garden Walk turns old 8th Street into a pedestrian stroll, nearly 100 new trees and native plantings bring shade and pollinator habitat, and public art installations by artists with Pittsburgh ties turn every path into a small discovery.
Families will love the Play Room, an artful play area built with natural materials, while the Backyard offers picnic tables, games and food-truck gatherings. Feeling active? The Flex Zone packs three pickleball courts and a small running track into nearly 30,000 square feet. Best of all, Arts Landing is free and open to all, every day ā and this autumn, in its very first fall season, it is the perfect pause between a gallery visit, a matinee and a riverfront walk in Pittsburgh.
